Tony McDonald has assembled a selection of works for this exhibition which explore figuration, abstraction, along with landscape and cultural associations.
I first met him in my painting and drawing classes at LSU. He absorbed the ideas and disciplines art school offered him and he has fulfilled the promise he showed at that time.
Not only has he found time to paint and draw over a lifetime, he has been a pioneer in community art development in Leesville and across the state.
I offer a word of advice to viewers of these paintings. Read the titles to help you make contact with the sources of these disparate images. At the same time, give yourself up to the slow light and dark settings which offer you an opportunity to decipher the messages within.
You will have spent quality time with one of Louisiana’s most lively and creative minds.
